PROMOTION SYSTEM IN A FIRM

Pregledni rad

The possibility of promotion in a firm has been reduced due to transition from hierarchic type of organisation to profitable centres, as well as due to unfavourable trends in Croatian economy. Organization is “flattened”. Employees spend many years at same jobs. However, there are movements, horizontal, vertical and diagonal. Horizontal movement is considered as entrance from the edge of imagined cone toward central axis of a firm and that is obtained by various forms of informed, formal education and self-education. Vertical movement most frequently means additional formal education, although internal seminars, internal and additional qualifications, temporary removal to another place and profile supplementation have been nowadays introduced and accepted forms of whole-life education. These are all bases for professional promotion in a firm. Diagonal in promotion can denote removal to another sector, to another job, and sometimes a change of occupation. However, a young worker should be acquainted with all these forms and possibilities already at the moment of his employment in a firm.
