THE CONCEPT OF THE NEW ECONOMY AND THE ROLE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

Izvorni znanstveni članak

Since the 90s the development process has not been analysed only through the premises of Solow’s growth model, because the basic sources of economic growth have been determined by technological changes, innovations and education of labour force that would be capable in using new technologies. According to the studies, these premises enable strong economic growth, low level of unemployment, productivity growth and no inflation. The New Economy means deep and essential changes in society and economy with the rise in living standard of the nation. The concept of the New Economy has developed many indicators and we have analysed some of them on the sample of several transition countries, with special references to Croatia. Since the ICT sector in Croatia has not been developed enough and has been one of the reasons for Croatian disappointing export and growth performances, the formulation and implementation of economic policy need some corrections and changes.
